It\u2019s time to cap-off the hugelkulture base that we built up last summer. Now that spring is nigh and the base wood well wetted over the winter, we\u2019re going to pile on layers of soil, compost, straw (and even mushroom spawn), then plant some legumes. Everyone is welcome to visit our Open Garden whether or not you choose to participate in the build. There should be some urban permaculture folks present to spread some knowledge. And there\u2019s likely to be live music on the \u201cBack Porch,\u201d as well. Refreshments, food, and all tools will be provided. Come and join the fun.<\/p>\n

\u201cHugelkultur<\/b> are no-dig raised beds with a difference. They hold moisture, build fertility, maximize surface volume and are great spaces for growing fruit, vegetables and herbs. Hugelkultur<\/b>, pronounced Hoo-gul-culture, means hill culture or hill mound.\u201d<\/p>\n
