{"id":1719,"date":"2018-04-08T21:30:05","date_gmt":"2018-04-09T04:30:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/santaclaracommunity.org\/scco\/?p=1719"},"modified":"2018-04-09T18:29:05","modified_gmt":"2018-04-10T01:29:05","slug":"park-district-feasibility-study-meeting-april-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/santaclaracommunity.org\/scco\/park-district-feasibility-study-meeting-april-17\/","title":{"rendered":"Park District Feasibility Study Meeting &#8211; April 17"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2006 the citizens of Eugene passed a bond that included purchasing 100 acres in the south Eugene hills.\u00a0 $1.1 million was spent on 26 acres of the Amazon headwaters, and millions more on the Suzanne Arlie 515 acre park in the hills.\u00a0 They city also spent $400,000 of bond money\u00a0 to subsidize the proposed Kidsports complex in south Eugene, an area flooded with athletic facilities and centered on the edge of College Hill, the University and Amazon Park.<\/p>\n<p>Santa Clarians had to wait eleven years for the recent 7 acre waterfront purchase for $450,000 that occurred after the Santa Clara Community Organization pointed out that the property was for sale.\u00a0 There were also some small parcels purchased for neighborhood parks.\u00a0 Six of the nine Santa Clara neighborhood parks are undeveloped and we have no dog park.\u00a0 The city did purchase 35 acres for a community park is in a &#8216;Butterfly&#8217; configuration.\u00a0 There are no plans to develop the park in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, Eugene&#8217;s parks and open space director Craig Carnage said the 2006 bond goals are guidelines, not mandates.\u00a0 Once again in 2018, Eugene citizens are being asked for bond money for goals, not mandates.<\/p>\n<p>How have Seattle, Bend, Springfield, Tualatin Hills, Redmond and over a dozen more Oregon cities dealt with the financing and politics involved in city run park systems?\u00a0 By switching to separately funded park and recreation districts.\u00a0 Interested?<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1720\" style=\"width: 269px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1720\" class=\"wp-image-1720 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/santaclaracommunity.org\/scco\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ferndale-259x300.jpeg?resize=259%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"259\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/santaclaracommunity.org\/scco\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ferndale.jpeg?resize=259%2C300&amp;ssl=1 259w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/santaclaracommunity.org\/scco\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ferndale.jpeg?resize=130%2C150&amp;ssl=1 130w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/santaclaracommunity.org\/scco\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ferndale.jpeg?w=300&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 259px) 100vw, 259px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1720\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Volunteers at work. Where the city takes care of it and not us?<\/p><\/div>\n<p>PARK DISTRICT FEASIBILITY STUDY COMMITTEE<br \/>\nTuesday, April 17th<br \/>\n7:00 pm<\/p>\n<p>Community supporters would like to invite you to attend an organizational meeting to explore the feasibility of creating a Metropolitan Park District to serve the recreational needs of the Eugene area. When speaking to neighborhood groups throughout the greater Eugene area for the past 5 months, we have noted great interest in this type of district and received very favorable results.<\/p>\n<p>Now it\u2019s time to take the next step! One of many highly developed parks in the city and south Eugene area. Wouldn&#8217;t it be nice to ride a bike to something similar in the River Road area that the city maintains?<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This is needed to determine if a Metropolitan Park District would be in the best interest of Eugene residents.
