The 4th got underway at 8:42 with a 4.2 earthquake centered near Walterville. Let’s hope it’s just fun and fireworks the rest of the day. Just in case you have forgotten what to do in an earthquake:
- DROP to the ground (before the earthquake drops you!),
- Take COVER by getting under a sturdy desk or table, and
- HOLD ON to it until the shaking stops.
Apparently the most important part is to take cover. More people get hurt by flying objects than collapsed buildings.

Disaster response is not a popular topic of discussion in this neck of the woods. They say isolation greatly compounds maladies at times of disaster. Wouldn’t it be great if everyone should have at least one neighbor they are willing and able to connect with at such times?
