Great News! – Phase 1 of Santa Clara Community Park to begin in March

Construction will begin soon for the City of Eugene Parks and Open Space’s new community park along River Loop 2! The work will include construction of an accessible playground, picnic shelter, spray playground, sand playground, parking lot, and restroom. Construction will also include select paths including a 12-foot-wide path connecting Wilkes Drive and River Loop 2 and a pedestrian bridge east of Madison Middle School.

Work is tentatively planned for March 2024 through the end of the year. You may see utility crews, such as EWEB, working in the project area in the weeks leading up to the park’s construction.

Expect traffic delays and street closures during construction. Availability of on-street parking may also be reduced or closed. We apologize for any inconvenience to you during this time.

Funding for this project comes from the 2018 Parks and Recreation bond, an Oregon Parks and Recreation Department Local Government Grant, and the Eugene Parks Foundation.

More information is available on the project webpage https://engage.eugene-or.gov/santaclarapark.  If you have questions, please contact Mark Kosmos, Project Manager, at 541-682-4902 or email mkosmos@eugene-or.gov.  We are looking forward to the construction of this new developed park for the Santa Clara community.

Neighborhood Plan Heading to City Council and Board of Commissioners

The River Road-Santa Clara neighborhood planning process has been a collaborative effort among community members, River Road Community Organization (RRCO), Santa Clara Community Organization (SCCO), City of Eugene, Lane County, and other stakeholders throughout both neighborhoods.

After five phases and countless volunteer and staff hours, an adoption package was recommended by the Community Advisory Committee, as well as both Eugene and Lane County Planning Commissions. The adoption package will now be considered by the Eugene City Council and Lane County Board of Commissioners as the final decision-makers. Eugene and Lane County are considering amendments to the Eugene-Springfield Metropolitan Area General Plan (Metro Plan) to adopt the River Road-Santa Clara Neighborhood Plan. Eugene is also considering neighborhood-specific land use code amendments within the River Road and Santa Clara neighborhood boundaries (these changes would only apply to properties within city limits).

For more information, including how to submit testimony and links to to draft plan, read the full neighborhood plan article here. (In case you run into a broken link to the draft plan, here is the working link)
