Santa Clara Garden Workshop – Sat Sep 16

On Saturday,  September 16, at 11 am, there will be a workshop  at the Santa Clara Community Garden, 4110 River Road in the Santa Clara neighborhood of Eugene to demonstrate several soil building methods, including: hot and cold compost, lasagna (layers), and vermiculture (worms) . Master Gardener Bonnie Houston will demonstrate how to keep hot and cold compost going in the fall and winter.  A worm bin, started in July, will be checked to see how soil building is going.  The benefits of worm castings will be discussed.  Other OSU Extension Service Master Gardeners will assist, including translation to Spanish.  The workshop will take about  an hour, and is free to the public.

Santa Clara Community Garden is a partnership between Santa Clara Community Organization, St. Matthews Episcopal Church, and Huerto de la Familia.  The garden is located about two miles north of Beltline Road, at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, next to a bus stop for easy access.

Contributions to the community garden for tools, development, and workshops may be made to the Santa Clara Community Organization (SCCO Garden Fund).  Please see the community garden website for more information: http://santaclaracommunitygarden.org , or email:  goodsoil@santaclaracommunitygarden.org

Speed Feedback Sign on Hunsaker Lane

Speed monitor sign on Hunsaker LaneFrom Lane County Public Works:

Greetings Beaver-Hunsaker Interested Parties:

Yesterday, Lane County set up a speed feedback sign (pictured to the right) on Hunsaker Lane. This is in response to the many concerns we heard during our planning process about vehicle speeds.

These signs have been proven to reduce speeds. Unfortunately, their effectiveness fades if they are in place for more than two weeks because they are no longer a new flashy feature that catches the driver’s attention. In our busy culture with many distractions, these signs become “white noise” if not moved around. Thus, this is not a permanent installation on Hunsaker Lane.

Over the coming months, we are going to be focusing this new equipment, which we acquired with a grant, on school zones. Click here for a news release about this broader effort to improve safety in Lane County.

Beaver-Hunsaker Corridor plan adopted

Dear Beaver-Hunsaker Interested Parties:

Yesterday, the Lane County Board of Commissioners adopted the Beaver-Hunsaker Corridor Plan. A recording of the meeting is available via the following link: https://lanecounty.ompnetwork.org/embed/sessions/14283/board-of-commissioners-morning-meeting-august-22-2017?display_mode=year

This is an important first step in realizing physical improvements, as the plan articulates the existing transportation needs and provides broad guidance for meeting those needs in the future. This plan will help Lane County seek additional funding needed to refine the design concepts with the community and to work with property owners about ways to minimize impacts. For more information, visit the project webpage: http://lanecounty.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=3585881&pageId=4213762

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Lane County considering overnight camping program for homeless in Santa Clara area

White areas within the Urban Growth Boundary would be impacted by the proposed program.

Lane County is considering a pilot program for county properties in the Santa Clara area that would allow homeless people to camp on certain types of private property with the owners’ permission.  The program would be very similar to the City of Eugene’s Overnight Parking Program which has existed since the late 1990”s.
