Need a place to garden?

The Santa Clara Community Garden, located on River Road behind St. Matthews Episcopal Church, is about full for the coming growing season. Santa Clara Community Organization and Huerto de la Familia manage the site made available by the church.

This coming year garden plans include demonstration composting and soil preparation. More information will be forthcoming when specific dates and times are set for workshops.

The few remaining plots are available at half-price ($30 for the year) because they are partially shaded. Contact Peter at 541-321-0798 for more information.

City Funding Proposals for parks

The Register-Guard published an article on March 15 regarding four scenarios for funding park maintenance and construction.  Other taxing options were also referenced in the article.  Click on the chart below to go to the full article.

  1. Scenario 1 is basically  for maintenance of existing parks.
  2. Scenario 2 adds in renovations at Echo Hollow and the Campbell Center as well as renovating 8 parks.
  3. Scenario 3 adds in renovation of River House, Sheldon Center and Pool and Peterson Barn.  Adds improvements for Alton Baker Park.  Increases access to Willamette River.
  4. Scenario 4 adds in multifield sports complex at Golden Gardens.  Build new community center pool in southwest or northwest Eugene.

For those who did not attend our last SCCO meeting, DaveWeigandt, superintendent of the River Road Park and Recreation District, gave a presentation on an alternative way to fund parks in Eugene.

Eugene is ready to take a big step forward by adopting our own urban growth boundary (UGB).  On March 7, 2017 the Eugene and Lane County Planning Commissions will hold a work session on the UGB proposal and hear from the public.  At later meetings the Commissions will discuss and make a recommendation on UGB adoption.

You are encouraged to attend the work session and public hearing.  The work session will include a presentation about the UGB proposal followed by an open house with informational materials on display and available to take home.  People will have the opportunity to ask staff questions before speaking at the hearing.  The public hearing that follow offers members of the public the opportunity to provide verbal testimony to both Commissions.  Written testimony can be provided by email or regular mail (Envisioneugene@ci.eugene.or.us)
