Support Awbrey Park School Families this Thanksgiving

St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church is providing some Thanksgiving meals for families at Awbrey Park Elementary School.

There are 3 ways you can help:

  1. Shop for a meal for a family. Bring your items to church by Sunday, November 19. 4110 River Road.
  2. Donate $25 for a turkey. Donations can be made online to St. Matt’s website under GIVE and designate ‘AWBREY PARK’ in the “add/write a note” section. Any leftover money they will allocate to the Christmas gifts they purchase for families next month.
  3. Purchase a turkey to donate.

    Basic items needed for a food basket: (Cost is about $30)
  • Bag of potatoes
  • Sweet potatoes or yams
  • Stuffing Mix
    Gravy (jar or packet)
  • Canned veggies
  • Cranberry Sauce
  • Rolls
  • Dessert
  • Reusable grocery bag

SCCO November meeting – Friends of Trees

Video from the November 2nd meeting of the presentation by Erik Burke of the Friends of Trees has been posted. Erik explains how the Friends of Trees operates in the Eugene area. He also provides information on how to possibly get a free tree through the Friends of Trees. There is also an extensive question and answer session about trees in general. October video – Autism Rocks – Have you ever been curious about what it is like to be autistic?

We had a presentation at our October SCCO meeting featuring Lexi Reed, who is autistic and is also ADHD. Listen to Lexi as she talks about life with autism. Lexi is followed by Angela Phinney of KindTree – Autism Rocks. You can learn more about Kind Tree here.

There was also some discussion at the meeting about road projects in River Road. As a reminder, Reed Dunbar gave a thorough presentation at our September meeting. Click here for link to Reed’s presentation.

Join Us to Volunteer for “Wood-Chipping” the Nature Trails at Wendover Park!

📍 Location: Wendover Park, Wendover Street off Scenic Drive just south of Beacon Dr

🌲 What’s the Plan? 🌲

We’ll be wood-chipping the trails to create a more enjoyable and sustainable walking experience. Wood chips help with erosion control, weed suppression, and provides a safer, more accessible pathway for all visitors.

👫 Who Can Join? 👫

Absolutely everyone! Whether you’re experienced or a beginner looking to connect with nature, your help is valuable. Families, friends, and solo volunteers are all welcome.

🛠️ What to Bring? 🛠️

Please bring work gloves, sturdy footwear, and your enthusiasm. Tools and wood chips will be provided on-site. Don’t forget to bring your reusable water bottles to stay hydrated.

The meeting will begin with Board business followed by a presentation by Eric Burke from the Friends of Trees that will start at approximately 8 pm.

Friends of Trees helps build resilient communities through the planting of trees in metropolitan areas from Portland to Eugene.  The multiple benefits of a mature canopy are substantial and quantifiable.  Learn about these aspects and ways you can help make our neighborhood a leader in climate resilience while providing habitat for a myriad of species.
