We have now launched an online survey to get your thoughts on what priorities should guide future programs and projects in Downtown Eugene. The survey will be open until 11:59 pm on Sunday, December 4.
What is the fate of the Leaburg canal? The generation plant is not currently operating. Should it be recommissioned? If so, at what cost? What happens to Leaburg Lake and the bridge that leads to houses if it’s removed? Learn about this and more by watching an excellent presentation from the team at EWEB.
The second video posted from our November SCCO meeting is a presentation by our Social Justice Committee. The topic is The Racial Wealth Gap in America. For most people, family wealth is acquired through property ownership and passed on down through the generations. However, for generations, Blacks have been discriminated against in housing. Just this year a Warren Buffet owned mortgage company was fined $24.4 million for intentionally discriminating against Blacks and Hispanic families in the Philadelphia area. View the Social Justice Committee’s presentation and group discussion here.
Come help spread chips at one of Santa Clara’s lesser known gems, Wendover Park. This four and a half acre park includes a natural area along the East Santa Clara Waterway. The waterway has a trove of flora and fauna including an active beaver population, river otter, wood ducks and more!
Bring a wheelbarrow, rake, and shovel if you have them. Cookies and hot drinks will be provided.

Santa Clara’s Small is Beautiful Farmstand and many other local small farms will be at the Fill Your Pantry event this Saturday. Fill Your Pantry is a unique opportunity to buy staple and storage crops in bulk directly from area farmers. Buying and storing local crops is a tangible way you can support our small farms and ensure that you eat local all winter.
For some farms, this event makes a big difference in their financial stability as it helps them extend and expand their late season crops. For eaters, Fill Your Pantry offers a chance to stock up on a wide variety of long-lasting veggies, fruits, grains, beans, frozen foods, meat, honey, and more. SNAP/EBT benefits are accepted at Fill Your Pantry.
When: Find us at Willamette Farm and Food Coalition’s 2022 Fill Your Pantry event on Sunday, November 13th from 11:30 AM to 4:30 PM!
Where: We’ll be at the Agricultural Pavilion at the Lane Events Center! The address is 796 W 13th Ave, Eugene OR, 97402 (west of the Rink Exchange).
Recently I’ve been fielding questions about plastics recycling. In particular the new development that #1 and #2 bottles, jugs, and jars are being accepted again in curbside containers and at transfer stations. Here is the Lane County flyer describing recycling options.
