From Jay Bozievich, County Commissioner.
Please join me for an information and input meeting on the proposed Overnight Camping Program on Tuesday November 14th at 6:30 pm at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church 4110 river Road.
The meeting will begin with a presentation about the proposed Overnight Camping Program with Q&A and then I will take public comment on the program. I then report back to the full Board your input prior to our taking action at our November 28th Board Meeting.
From the SCCO.
The proposed Overnight Camping Program would be similar to Eugene’s program which is run by St. Vincent de Paul’s. More information about how the Eugene program works can be found at https://www.eugene-or.gov/3703/Car-Camping-Program

I just found out about this proposal last night on the news. Good job on the short notice since most of us work for a living & can’t just take time off to attend a meeting within 24 hours notice! Then it gets approved 4-1 without the community getting a chance to express our concerns! Bad idea in my opinion, seeing the expressway camp being an eye sore already. This is going to ruin the nice neighborhood we have, plus I can’t imagine all the needles/trash being left out for our children/pets find or step on! Who is going to pay for property decrease & taxes (which go up every year) when I go to refinance or sell the house in the future? If the plan goes through, I don’t plan on keeping the house much longer. Think about it, especially if it was in your neighborhood!!!
Several meetings about this issue were certainly were held on short notice. The Santa Clara Community Organization (SCCO) posted information about various meetings as soon as the SCCO was informed. The November 28th County Commissioner meeting about overnight camping was posted on our website and Facebook Page on November 8th. Please subscribe to our blog or join our Facebook Group to get updates as soon as they are posted.
The SCCO role in the homeless issue is to keep Santa Clara residents informed of meetings as soon as the SCCO learns about them. The SCCO has not taken a position on the homeless issue. Keep in mind that the SCCO is not always made aware of city actions on any topic.
The SCCO would love to hear your input about this issue and other topics in our area.
