Santa Clara Community Garden and OSU Compost Specialists are sponsoring a series of free composting workshops, 10 to Noon on the following schedule:

The garden is located at 4110 River Road, behind St. Matthews Church, about 2 miles north of Beltline. People can just show up and find out about composting. Here are the workshop dates and the subjects of each:

June 9 – Workshop, 10 to Noon – Drip irrigation: Susan Costa will describe the benefits and methods of applying drip irrigation in your garden. We will also be checking on how past compost builds are doing. For example, the mid-May compost pile reached 130 degrees Fahrenheit (a hot pile) in about a week, and is holding that temperature at the end of the month.

July 21 – Mobile Plant Clinic – 10 to Noon – OSU Master Gardeners bring the plant clinic to the garden and answer questions about plants, problems, and gardening – 10 to Noon – Subject: How to build a fresh compost pile.

September 29 – 10 am to Noon – Harvesting and preserving, plus checking on compost builds, and building a new hot compost.

November 3 – Compost Workshop, 10 to Noon – Subject: Lasagna compost, Tim Foelker will describe how to improve the soil in your garden by building a layered compost. Recommended reading and resources include:
