I have tried valiantly not to drive over the pink apron at the intersection of Irving road and River road. When there is two lanes of traffic on River road and a full lane on Irving turning left, it is impossible to avoid driving over the apron. Judging from the number of tire tracks on the apron, plenty of others have had the same problem. And that is not including larger trucks trying to turn. I don’t think they can do it at all. Please consider not using this system again.

At our July 3rd meeting, Reed Dunbar from the city mentioned that the red aprons were designed according to the
City’s standards. But based on the negative comments, the City is reviewing those standards. If they change the standards they will come back and change the aprons. You can view the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00iuEY15nnY . The Irving/Hunsaker issue starts at 7:17

I applaud the revision of the standards. Thank you for telling me.
But there is another thing I’d like to raise, if you will give me your kind
attention. Over time from when the turn first went in, I have to tell the city
that I have hardly ever seen bicycles using it. Maybe four? Everyone I ask (and I live off River Road at Exeter Ave, says the same.

This leads me to ask exactly what the City Council envisions as the River Road future. If the prevailing vision is for people riding bicycles and the bus, I really wish they would come down and see how the community really uses the streets.

We recalled one rep because she wanted to close down one lane of traffic on River Road without asking us. We could have told her that the developers are moving forward and we already have jams around the Beltline. Could the council PLEASE move beyond their vision of a perfect world (which we might be the first to agree with under perfect circumstances) and see who we really are as we sometimes struggle to pay property taxes and get to work on time.

I ride a bicycle and ride the bus and use this route often. I see community members on bicycles all the time. Perhaps if you did too you’d see them as well. Additionally, I believe the apron curb is meant as a way of slowing vehicles down so they are more aware of other road users.

Glad to hear it works for you. I do not ride the bus so am glad to be advised. If you notice, i said i didnt see them when i was on river road so there must be times when the lane is not used. Not a problem at all. Safety must come first. I reported only my own experience. What I have seen is trucks struggling to make the turn and several near misses
