Moving Ahead Open House Sept 14 – Changes for River Road?

MovingAheaLTDstreetSeveral members of the Santa Clara Community Organization attended a meeting at North Eugene High School on May 18th and provided input to possible changes to River Road.  Our input, along with input from residents throughout Eugene, has been translated into options for further review.

A couple of upcoming opportunities to review the options and give more input into the River Road Corridor improvements are:

  • moving-ahead-logoOn-line review at MovingAhead.org by September 20.
  • Attend the Open House from 4-6 pm, Monday September 14th at the Eugene Public library (100 W 10th Avenue).

Here’s a link to the pdf with potential plans for six corridors in Eugene.  We appreciate your help so far, and hope you can review the online plans and attend the Open House.

Santa Clara Awbrey Park Native Plant Bike Tour

The Northwest Permaculture Convergence will be held at River Road Park August 28, 29, 30. At 1:30 on Friday, August 28 the Santa Clara Awbrey Park Native Plant Bike Tour will leave River Road Park and head for Awbrey Park to view the native plant restoration on Spring Creek.  Awbrey Park presentation will be about 2 pm, followed by several stops on the ride back to River Road Park.

It is about 3 miles to Awbrey Park where native plant restoration has been facilitated by City of Eugene parks staff and implemented by volunteers over the past 5 years. The park tour will describe invasive plant removal and on-going restoration of native plants along Spring Creek. Also, a near-by city-owned parcel along Spring Creek (Springwood Bridge) will provide contrast to the park restoration process.  Additionally we will visit other sites where native plants are thriving, and a constructed water catchment swale at Ferndale Park will show another approach to improved neighborhood drainage. The bike tour will return to River Road Park about 4:30 pm. Residents may join the tour anywhere along the way.  Please contact Peter at 541-321-0798 if you have questions.

This week – Parks Open House, Concert and BBQ

PresTrailTuesday is the final opportunity for input into the unpaved trails plan.  A proposed trail in Santa Clara is currently ranked 4th in the city plan.  The Register-Guard had a lengthy article about the plans in this morning’s edition.  The Open House is from 6-8 PM at 1980 Roosevelt Blvd, Eugene.

This Thursday, July 30, 6:30–8 pm, there will be a concert in the park at Awbrey Park.  It’s supposed to be super hot Thursday and Awbrey Park is shaded by plenty of Douglas Fir and Big Lear Maples.  Bring a blanket and enjoy Eleven Eyes, a funk and jazz group.

Saturday it’s the annual Santa Clara Fire Department BBQ.   The BBQ starts about 11 am, or when the coals are hot.  It ends when they run out of chicken, usually no later than 5 pm, but sometimes as early as 3 pm.  If you don’t know where the BBQ is, just  drive along River Road and look for the BBQ smoke.
