Why is it that the camp has to be in a residential neighborhood? I work hard, pay my taxes, donate to charities, am a good person. If I had known that the dog park would be turned into a homeless camp I would not have moved here. I have nothing against the homeless people but they cause more congestion, makes it less safe for our kids, who walk past there on the way to school. The element it draws with petty theft, pan handling, and excessive waste. I am disappointed with the decisions makers on this as one, you can’t keep moving the homeless from neighborhood to neighborhood. It decreases the value of one’s home, draws an unsafe element to the neighborhood, and will not solve the problem of homelessness. Shuffling them around isn’t the answer…
This refuge proposal is less then half a mile from my house. What will 500? homeless people do when I am at work. Well they won’t be going to work thats for certain. They will infiltrate every square inch of the Santa Clara neighborhood. They will be scouring in our garbage and looking for every opportunity to steal from my vehicle, house and garage. Will they go to jail if they are caught? Perhaps for a day or so then returned after getting a solid meal to repeat the same habits which probably made them homeless to begin with. Face it these are tramps who have no morals or values, live day to day and flock to Eugene because they are supported by our city elected officials. We already have high crime way too many pan handlers for this area. Its not even 1/2 a mile from the high school. What are you people thinking? What is your problem? Why make your problem my problem? Enforce vagrancy laws which were intended to disperse this runaway problem. This is an outrage!
