Educational Forum, concurrent to the Prop Fair

The goal of the educational forum and poster session is to explain the current neighbourhood planning process now underway between River Road and Santa Clara Neighbourhoods and the city of Eugene.

The planning process is an unique opportunity to influence how our neighborhoods evolve into the future in terms of land use, economic development, conservation of resources, transportation, resilience and sustainability.

Many people would like the neighborhood plan to encourage walkable neighborhoods, restored habitat, front yard gardens,  reduced need for cars, solar design, green economic development, civic culture and much more.  The three presentations will describe several topics and issues the neighborhood plan could be helpful to bring about.

Presentations will include

2:00 PM
Stormwater Strategies: Urban Runoff and Water Conservation
– Tim Foelker

A brief, but entertaining approach to solid (and liquid) techniques for pollution prevention, rainwater collecting, energy and water conservation, and sustainable gardening practices.

3:00 PM
Green and Resilient Homes and Neighborhood Fit the Planning Process
–
Jan Spencer

Overview of the neighborhood planning  process and how grass to garden, solar design, rain water catchment, edible landscaping, walkable neighborhoods, mindful economic development fit into the planning process and finally, how can people participate in the planning  process to help make sure these important resilience building actions are included in the neighborhood plan.

4:00 PM
Housing to Enhance Neighborhood Fabric
– Cam Ewing

This presentation will explore the idea of appropriate housing density and design in River Road to address the increasing population in our neighborhood. This higher density development should be vibrant, increase neighborhood walk-ability, be sensitive to the environment, increase local prosperity, and contribute to the overall neighborhood fabric. We will look closely at neighborhood demographics, neighborhood intricacies, and identify an appropriate balance of quality and quantity for our neighborhood needs and future.,
