Lane County Recycling Info (Including Plastics)

Recently I’ve been fielding questions about plastics recycling. In particular the new development that #1 and #2 bottles, jugs, and jars are being accepted again in curbside containers and at transfer stations. Here is the Lane County flyer describing recycling options.

    Hi Tim,
Do we have a time and place to gather the plastics that the local trash companies won’t take? I have just moved from Bethel and there is a drive there to gather and take plastics about every six months.
    Thanks!

The Plastics 2-4-5 Community Collector program is still going strong with over 190 community collectors across the county. Program participants collect 8.5 tons of hard-to-recycle rigid plastic each year. This plastic would have ended up in our landfill if not for the efforts of this incredible community of volunteers. To be connected with the collector closest to you email plasticscollection@lanecountyor.gov and provide your address.

If you would like to become a registered plastics 2-4-5 community collector, drop us a line at plasticscollection@lanecountyor.gov. We will provide a 20-30 minute training and then you can self-schedule drop-off appointments directly with Lane County when you have 1 cubic yard of material (which is about the volume that a clothes dryer takes up.) Appointments are available most Tuesdays and a couple Saturdays per month. The appointment calendar is posted at least 2 months out so you can plan a multi-stop Eugene trip that includes plastic-drop off appointment.

NOTE: If you choose to become a community collector you are not required to accept referrals from Lane County. Of the 190 collectors in the program only 30 accept referrals from the public. We are in the process of recruiting new community collectors in areas of need, including Creswell, Cottage Grove, Springfield, Oakridge and Veneta. If you know anyone who is interested, please share this message with them. The program will continue until Oregon’s Recycling Modernization Act is fully implemented, July 2025.
