Join the Mural Painting Team – Tuesdays & Thursdays

The mural at the Irving Grange is well on its’ way to becoming a reality. Now is your chance to add your painting skills. It’s easy – in fact, it’s paint by number. Our friends at Mural Mice Universal, led by Maggie Dewar, will provide everything you need and give you a helping hand if so needed.

You never know who is going to show up. Today we had the 2016 Old Slug Queen, Eugenia, holding her paintbrush between her antennae. Eugenia was accompanied by 2024 Slug Queen contestant Sitara T Slugshine. Everyone present had the feeling that Sitara is certain to be future royalty.

Bring some friends and paint. Five years from now you can say, “I helped paint that”.
Painting is every Tuesday and Thursday from 4-6 at the Irving Grange at 1011 Irvington Drive.

Painting the Irving Grange Mural is easy, it’s paint by number.
It’s going to be a beautiful mural.

Concert at Awbrey Park – Sunday, August 4

Santa Clara’s second annual Concert will be held at Awbrey Park.
Where: Awbrey Park is at the corner of River Road and Spring Creek Drive
When: Sunday, August 4
Time: 1:00 to 4:30 PM

There will be four musical acts, two food trucks and games for the kids. A new addition this year is a large shade tent with seating for about 100 people.

The concert is presented by the Santa Clara Community Organization and the Santa Clara Community Foundation and sponsored by the City of Eugene’s Art in the Park program.

Be 2 Weeks Ready—Community Emergency Preparedness

The State of Oregon has launched a new Be 2 Weeks Ready emergency preparedness toolkit. This program offers 8 modules and a variety of activities to enhance each module.

Being 2 Weeks Ready means having an emergency plan and enough supplies for you and everyone in your household to survive for at least two weeks following a disaster. This may sound overwhelming, but you’re probably more prepared than you think! The Be 2 Weeks Ready program is designed to help you start from where you’re at and build your self-reliance and community preparedness step-by-step.

The State of Oregon Community Preparedness Coordinator, Kayla Thompson, says: 

“You can access the toolkit on your own at any time by going to our website, https://www.oregon.gov/oem/hazardsprep/pages/2-weeks-ready.aspx.

… For this program, a community is any group of people who spends time together. … Communities could be co-workers at a job, parents and guardians of students in a school, neighborhood associations, faith-based groups, or even students in a college dorm.

Again, this program can be done individually, but we’ve added that community structure. So it starts with the Community Preparedness Coordinator at OEM, which is me. I manage the program and I support the program coordinators. The program coordinators are individuals who are in an outreach or a training position and want to bring this program to their community. They then select community hosts who are people within their community who want to teach this information to others.

And lastly, the communities are the groups of people who want to learn the preparedness information.”

BottleDrop Give: Hidden Bottle Hunt 2024

At 8 a.m. on July 3, @OregonBottleDrop is kicking off its annual #HiddenBottleHunt to celebrate Oregon’s Bottle Bill, which has helped us raise money to further our work! Join the search to find one of six commemorative bottles hidden in parks and other public places around the state and discover new places and people along the way! Bottle finders also get to direct a $1,000 donation to the BottleDrop Give nonprofit of their choice! We hope you choose the Santa Clara Community Foundation, of course.

What is the Hidden Bottle Hunt?

The Bottle Bill has helped keep special places across Oregon litter-free for 53 years. To celebrate Oregon’s Bottle Bill, BottleDrop is hosting its fourth annual Hidden Bottle Hunt. Six commemorative bottles will be hidden in six different locations (one bottle in each location) around the state. On each day of the hunt – July 3 to 7 – BottleDrop will release separate clues leading to the locations of each of the six bottles. No SCCO meeting in July – Check out upcoming events

The Santa Clara Community Organization will not be meeting in July.   The first Thursday of July is the Fourth of July: Happy Birthday, America.

There are a lot of events in the Santa Clara and River Road area during July and August. The Eugene Pro Rodeo kicks things off this Wednesday, July 3rd.

The SCCO kicks off August with a concert on Sunday, August 4th.
