Large Scale Construction project at River Road & Beltline over the next several months

From NW Natural Gas:

I wanted to reach out to both the River Road & Santa Clara Community Organizations regarding a large scale construction project NW Natural will be doing at the River Road & Beltline intersection over the next several months. Federal law requires safety inspections of our transmission lines and to ensure we are compliant with these protocols, we will be conducting in-road work on River Road and roadside work along the westbound Beltline exit onto River Road.

As neighborhood leaders, I wanted to be sure you heard about this project from me first.

Below are a few pieces of information I hope you will find helpful.

1. We will be conducting the roadside work first, beginning on/around July 17. This work is not expected to disrupt traffic.
2. In-road work will begin, approximately, in mid-August. This work will take place at night, Monday through Thursday, between 9:00 pm and 5:00 am.
3. Nearby residents and businesses may notice noise as a result of the project.
4. While we will make every effort to minimize traffic disruptions, there will be periods of time when single lanes on River Road will be closed.
5. Natural gas service will not be affected during this project.
6. All work is being permitted by the city of Eugene and ODOT.

I can be reached via email (david.vanderhaeghen@nwnatural.com ) or phone (541-731-8587) if you or anyone has specific questions. Please do not contact the city or ODOT with questions as they are not performing the work.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Community Meeting about Howard Ave July 10 and 13

From the City of Eugene

I’m reaching out to share about two upcoming community meetings Santa Clara neighbors may be interested in attending. Both meetings are about the draft design for Howard Avenue, the street in the River Road neighborhood the runs in front of Howard Elementary School and Kelly Middle School.

  • Online Zoom community meeting on Monday, July 10th from noon to 1:30pm
  • In-person community meeting in the Howard Elementary School, 700 Howard Avenue, cafeteria on Thursday, July 13th from 5:30pm to 7:00pm

Initial community engagement about the design of Howard Avenue began in 2021 with a survey and three online open houses, engagement was paused until recently. The draft street design incorporating input from the 2021 survey and open houses is now being shared with the community for their final thoughts before the project moves into the engineering phase. Community members who cannot attend an event are welcome to email me with their input.

Community members can learn more about the Howard Avenue project, including proposed changes and timeline, online at https://engage.eugene-or.gov/howard-avenue-srts

Please feel free to share meeting dates and times with across any social media platforms you may frequent, via listservs and newsletters, and with friends. I’m so excited to see this project moving forward and hope the community is too!

Many thanks and happy Monday,

Catherine
