Needed – Santa Clara resident for Active Transportation Committee

From the City of Eugene:

The City of Eugene Transportation Team is seeking residents who are interested in serving on the Active Transportation Committee (ATC). We are particularly interested in recruiting folks from your neighborhood, since we currently don’t have representation from your area. We would be very grateful if you were able to share far and wide with your community.

Recruitment is underway to fill vacancies for two year terms beginning in January 2023. Applicants must reside within Eugene’s Urban Growth Boundary and be willing to attend monthly meetings and read background materials provided by City staff.

ATC members are advisory to City staff and play a vital role in implementing active transportation projects in the Transportation System Plan which will shape the future of the pedestrian and bicycling system for the next 20 years and make Eugene an even greater place for people who walk and bike.

Applications and information are available on the Transportation Planning website, or @EugeneTransportation Facebook and InstagramApplications will be accepted until November 28th at 11:59pm. For more information: Contact Willow Hamilton, Community Engagement Coordinator for Transportation Planning at whamilton@eugene-or.gov.

SCCO meeting videos posted – Leaburg Canal and the Wealth Gap

What is the fate of the Leaburg canal? The generation plant is not currently operating. Should it be recommissioned? If so, at what cost? What happens to Leaburg Lake and the bridge that leads to houses if it’s removed? Learn about this and more by watching an excellent presentation from the team at EWEB.

Leaburg Canal - Strategic Evaluation Update

The second video posted from our November SCCO meeting is a presentation by our Social Justice Committee. The topic is The Racial Wealth Gap in America. For most people, family wealth is acquired through property ownership and passed on down through the generations. However, for generations, Blacks have been discriminated against in housing. Just this year a Warren Buffet owned mortgage company was fined $24.4 million for intentionally discriminating against Blacks and Hispanic families in the Philadelphia area. View the Social Justice Committee’s presentation and group discussion here.
