Volunteer for the Egan Warming Center

New Volunteer Orientations This Week, on Tuesday the 13th and Saturday the 17th.

The Egan Warming Center was established after Major Tom Egan was found dead at 60 years of age, partly covered in snow. The Center’s goal is to help people with nowhere to go to survive cold nights. The Warming Centers open when temperatures are expected to reach 30 degrees or below. Typically, about 15 nights a year are cold enough to activate the warming centers.

Volunteers needed. Cold weather is projected this week!!

  • On nights when the centers are activated, volunteers work an approximately four-hour shift:
    – evening set-up,
    – the first half of the night,
    – the second half of the night
    – or clean-up in the morning.
  • Volunteers work in pairs
  • Every site has a lead and every shift has a lead

If you would like to volunteer for shifts please register on the St. Vincent DePaul website. The next orientations are on December 13 and December 17. These are online orientations.

Get an ‘Everyone Welcome’ Lawn Sign

The holidays are a wonderful and heartwarming time of year to reconnect to what truly matters – love, togetherness, friends, family, community and giving. In the true spirit of the holidays, the Santa Clara Community Organization is giving away ‘Everyone Welcome’ lawn signs. We feel that having these signs sprinkled throughout our Santa Clara community will foster and sustain a neighborhood environment that is diverse, inclusive, safe, and welcoming.

If you would like to get a sign and visibly welcome all, please email the Social Justice Committee at sjc@santaclaracommunity.org .
