New Volunteer Orientations This Week, on Tuesday the 13th and Saturday the 17th.
The Egan Warming Center was established after Major Tom Egan was found dead at 60 years of age, partly covered in snow. The Center’s goal is to help people with nowhere to go to survive cold nights. The Warming Centers open when temperatures are expected to reach 30 degrees or below. Typically, about 15 nights a year are cold enough to activate the warming centers.
Volunteers needed. Cold weather is projected this week!!
- On nights when the centers are activated, volunteers work an approximately four-hour shift:
– evening set-up,
– the first half of the night,
– the second half of the night
– or clean-up in the morning. - Volunteers work in pairs
- Every site has a lead and every shift has a lead
