Over 30 People show up to support Hate Crime Victims in Santa Clara

Last Friday, a vehicle drove by Xia Wang’s and Ben Christensen’s home in Santa Clara shooting almost 30 paintballs at their house and cars. An excellent article by Mary Bell and James Croxton of Double Sided Media describes the entire incident and three previous occurrences at the same house.

The SCCO rejects hatred, bigotry, and vulgarity in all forms. Members of the SCCO Bias Response Team, along with twenty five of Xia and Ben’s friends showed up to clean and offer support.

If you would like to join the SCCO Bias Response Team please email sjc@santaclaracommunity.org . If another incident occurs in Santa Clara, you will be emailed about any actions that might be taken, such as helping clean up or showing support. The goal is to increase the Response Team to at least 30 members, knowing not everyone can help on short notice.

Xia and Ben are planning a community building project – a mural on their property. They hope to start this Sunday or Monday, just a little over a week after being targeted.

It’s time for a Santa Clara Community Picnic

Join us, Wednesday, August 11th at Awbrey Park from 6:30 to 8:30.  Awbrey Park is at the corner of Spring Creek Drive and River Road.

Bring a picnic and listen to the Platypus Clarinet Quartet.  Their program is fun and diverse….’pops’ as opposed to classical, much of it with a festive Latin flavor.

It’s been well over a year since we were able to gather together.  So come on out, bring your picnic, listen to some fun music and chat it up with your Santa Clara friends.

Construction detour coming as Beltline Delta Interchange nears completion

Please be very careful over the next eight weeks when going through the interchange. Keep in mind that you may get used to the changes quickly, but visitors may get confused and make awkward slowdowns and stops. Here’s an update from ODOT.

EUGENE — Construction work at the Beltline Delta Interchange is nearly complete. One of the last major pieces of the project will connect a new ramp to Beltline Highway.

Sunday, July 18: The current off ramp from northbound Delta Highway to westbound Beltline Highway closes.

Sunday, July 18 – Wednesday, July 28: Northbound Delta travelers will continue to the light at Green Acres Road and turn left onto the onramp to westbound Beltline Highway. A temporary left turn signal will control traffic. This access will only be available for the detour. Crews will be completing the new off ramp from northbound Delta Highway to westbound Beltline Highway.

Wednesday, July 28: The new off ramp opens. Travelers going to both east and westbound Beltline Highway will exit just south of the new traffic signal.

All dates are subject to change. Follow detour signs and check TripCheck.com for current road conditions and restrictions.

Once the new off ramp is completed, the majority of the work to reconfigure the interchange to improve safety and traffic flow will be done. Final work completing the project is schedule to be finished in August. Construction began in late 2019.

More information and videos about the project are available at the project webpage.

Where traffic is routed through or around a work zone, pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will also be provided routes through or around the work zone.
