City of Eugene – 2021 Community Safety Initiative survey

Eugene’s Community Safety System includes a wide array of services to keep the community safe – from fire to emergency medical services to police to courts to homelessness and prevention services. As the community grew, unmet service needs were identified, as was the necessity for more funding to meet those needs.

As a result, the Community Safety Initiative was developed to enhance or add services to address the identified unmet needs in the Community Safety System. You can learn more about the Community Safety Initiative on the City’s website. This Initiative is supported by a payroll tax the City of Eugene started collecting on January 1, 2021.

A lot has changed since the Initiative was developed from community outreach and surveys conducted almost three years ago. Results of this survey, along with focus group input and public comment, will provide guidance to the City Council as it considers any adjustments to the Initiative. A report will be submitted to City Council for review and discussion at a work session in May of 2021.

This anonymous survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. This survey will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.

Pop Up Blood Drive – Possibly win a new car!

After a Northwest rain, a rainbow appears. For our community, the pot at the end of the rainbow becomes fuller with each donation. Your support encourages our local community to step up and donate blood every 56 days. All donors will be entered into our Rev It Up Sweepstakes (last day is March 17) to win a new car this month. Correction: Mims Food and Distro Hub is NOW open

The NAACP would like to announce that the Mims Food and Distro hub is up and running at the NAACP office located at 330 High St in Eugene. We are offering the following items:

  • Fresh produce
  • Frozen/ Refrigerated and shelf stable staples
  • Household items such as shampoo/conditioner, 
  • Baby formula, diapers, toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • Laundry soap and dish soap are some of the items that can be found at the Food/Distro hub for community members in need.

 The Mims Food and Distro hub is open:

  • Monday – Friday: 9 am – 1 pm. To access the Food and Distro hub during the week, please call ahead at (541) 484-1119. Or email Jessie at jessieg@naacplanecounty.org.
  • Drop in hours are every Thursday: 12 pm – 2 pm.
  • Once a month home deliveries are available upon request on Tuesdays or Thursdays between 11:30 am – 4:30 pm. 
  • We ask that community members fill out the NAACP Community Assessment form to give our office a better idea of what items and resources are needed to better serve our community. 

For anyone who would like to donate to the Mims Food and Distro hub, we ask that they consider only donating the following items:

  • jars of peanut butter
  • cheese
  • eggs
  • baby diapers
  • butter

Or, make a monetary donation to NAACP.

Fabio Andrade from the city’s Human Resources and Neighborhood Involvement (HRNI) and Captain Shawn Adams from the Eugene Police Department will join us to address the recent graffiti incidents and their impact on our community.  He will share how their program operates, how SCCO can support that program, and how HRNI can support us in responding to local hate incidents.  We will focus on moving social justice forward in our organization and in our neighborhood.

We will also be asking for volunteer applicants for the board of our newly created 501(3)(c), the Santa Clara Community Foundation.

Our Congressman, Peter DeFazio, Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee of the US House of Representatives, will present an overview of his plans to support and promote Transportation Electrification at the 5 PM Zoom meeting on Monday, March 8, of the Emerald Valley Electric Vehicle Association.

Following Rep. DeFazio’s presentation and Q&A, we will hear about the Oregon Legislature’s progress on EV incentives and charger development and what you can do to help.
