YMCA looking at potential site in Santa Clara

The YMCA is excited to share an important next step in the YMCA’s long-term planning—and they would love your input.

The YMCA is in the beginning stages of capital planning for two future locations—a Patterson Campus expansion (where the existing Tennis and Pickleball Center resides) and a potential future location in North Eugene. Either the lot by the current LTD station or the Santa Clara Community Park site.

The questions about your preference for where to locate a YMCA in Santa Clara are in the latter part of the survey. Here is a link to the survey.

I am having trouble taking the survey. It asks me if I am a member…answer is “no”. Then it asks me what I use the Y for. Well, if I am not a member, then nothing.

Are you trying to ask me, if I was a member, what would I use the Y for? Please advise.

It’s an awkward survey. You can advance through the survey without responding to a particular page by clicking on the arrows at the bottom right of the page.

  3. Judy Hall says:

With all due respect, an awkward survey is an inaccurate survey.
It is the type of survey which leads to skipped questions or survey abandonment, putting the results in a dishonest summary. It would be wise of the survey development team to pull the survey and recreate it so survey takers can have the ability to answer accurately and honestly. Taking a survey is a great idea, but please ask the development team to create a more accurate survey. One that reflects the truthful response of Santa Clara residents. It is not hard to simply ask, if you were a member, which benefits would you utilize.

I agree. I was in marketing for years and would not have sent out a survey like that one. Also, Internet surveys are not statistically accurate. There is no telling if a group is sending it out to a mailing group to encourage certain responses. And there are a lot of other ways to skew the results. In this case, we don’t even know if Santa Clara/River Road residents know about it.
Worthwhile surveys need to be carefully crafted and target the proper sample base. Just guessing, but the survey reads like it was intended for existing Y members, but the Y got some great press (including KEZI) and the survey got out into the wild.

The site on Irving/river road of the old school is my choice. However there must be changes to the streets to allow a new right turn lane into the property from river road. Traffic is very bad at that intersection. Same on Hunseker – need a turn lane into it.

Also exiting needs to be addressed – a traffic light? or find a way to go thru the Lane bus station.

The site next to Madison is not favorable. Wilkes is a narrow 2 lane road – that is a big problem with all the traffic the Y would generate. and only 1 light at the corner of wilkes and river road.
