Keep up with local changes

We had a packed house for our recent SCCO meeting on December 1st.  Most of the people in the audience were interested in the old Santa Clara school property being converted to a LTD station as well as housing and commercial uses.  Homeless shelters were another major topic for the evening.

It can be daunting to keep up with the changes being proposed for the rapidly developing Santa Clara area.  One way to keep up is to subscribe to some of the many newsletters, blogs and articles published by the City of Eugene.

Some of the topics that are currently hot issues in our area that you can subscribe to are:

  • Parks and Open Spaces
  • Transportation Options – the In Motion Newsletter
  • New Land Use Applications
  • Planning and Development – Community Development (Affordable Housing and Homelessness included)

There are  multitudes of other issues to subscribe to that might be of interest to you.  If you subscribe to any of the topics and find an issue that you think the SCCO should address, please email us  .

Santa Clara Community Transit Center Update

Santa Clara residents who attended the Community Developer Meeting as part of our monthly SCCO meeting were treated to a first look at Santa Clara Station.  There was a large audience which generated many good questions.

The proposal you see below is a draft and must go in front of several governmental agencies for review and approval.  There will be several more meetings with the Santa Clara Community Organization as the plan for Santa Clara Station unfolds. We’ll keep you informed of the meeting dates. Some highlights of the draft plan:

  • LTD  proposes to divide the 7 acres it owns into four ‘quadrants’.
  • The LTD transit center is proposed for the southeast quadrant.
  • Housing is proposed for the northeast quadrant .
  • Commercial use is proposed for the northwest and southwest quadrants.
  • A light is proposed for Green Lane and River Road.  This will help buses exit onto River Road.
  • The westbound lanes on Hunsaker would be split into three dedicated lanes.  One for a right turn, one for going straight, and one for a dedicated left turn.
  • A plaza is proposed that would be able to house a Saturday Market.
