The River Road – Santa Clara neighborhood planning process is in its final stage and it’s time to gather community feedback. The plan focuses on five topic areas – Land Use, Economic Development, Transportation, Parks and Natural Resources, and Community.
Did we get it right? Are your concerns addressed in this plan? Can you suggest any way to make it better before the SCCO will need to make a recommendation to the planning commissions, City Council, and County Commissioners this summer? Come to the May meeting and see what’s in it, give your feedback, and learn about ways to continue to voice your opinions as it moves forward. We welcome your participation and look forward to hearing from you.
Topic: SCCO May meeting Time: May 4, 2023 7:00 PM 3280 River Road (Messiah Lutheran Church)
Santa Clarians. Now is the time to act on improving our area streets for safety as well as bicycling and pedestrian improvements. If you have ever wanted to add features to slow down traffic, add bicycle lanes or sidewalks in dangerous areas now is the time to respond.
The quickest way to give input is by dropping a ‘pin’ on an interactive map and mentioning what you what like to see improved. For example, drop a pin on Spring Creek and mention the need for sidewalks before some child gets hurt walking to the park from the school. Or drop a pin on a street with frequent speeders and mention the need for ‘traffic calming’.
Why give input now? Eugenean’s passed a bond measure in 2022 that dedicates $15 million for walking, biking, and safety improvement projects to include bike lanes, crosswalks, off-street paths, pedestrian bridges, and street tree projects. The city is taking input now and will prioritize the input in order to begin construction in 2025. (It is okay to give input even if you are a county, but not city resident)
Here’s a link to the interactive map where you can give input. You will quickly see that Santa Clara is way behind in dropping ‘pins’.
If you need a little help with placing pins, watch this short video from our April SCCO meeting.
Here’s another way to give input and learn a lot more about the bond. You’ll get a lot of one on one if you grab one of the many planning team members.

In anticipation of a school board decision on the fate of the old North Eugene High School in mid-April, the River Road, and Santa Clara Community Organizations requested that the 4J School Administration hold an Information/Feedback Session on the future of the building and the Yugin Gakeun Japanese Immersion Elementary School and Kelly Middle School programs.
Here is their response:
Dear North Eugene neighbors,
With the new North Eugene High School set to open this fall, the Eugene School Board is reviewing options for what to do with the existing building once it’s vacated. Join us for an information session on April 12 to learn more.
Info Session: North Eugene Building Update Wednesday, April 12 6:30–7:30 p.m. 4J Education Center, 200 N. Monroe St.
The decision to retrofit or tear down the existing building is not made in isolation, as either option carries impacts for the new high school, other school buildings in the North Eugeneregion and the need for field space for both the district and community at large. The existing North Eugene High School has been an important landmark and community gathering space in the North region for more than a half-century. The district is not taking this decision lightly.
Additional information can be found on the district website here, as well as an opportunity to share questions and thoughts on the decision.
We hope to see you on April 12. Jenna McCulley, Director of Communications, and Intergovernmental Relations Eugene School District 4J
The School Board will make their determination on the future of the High School building at their April 19th meeting, so we recommend that you attend the 4/12 meeting if possible and/or check out the website listed above for more information.
