Reminder: Applications being accepted for Ward 7 City Council Vacancy

Applications are now being accepted for the appointment of Ward 7’s Interim City Councilor. Applicants must reside in Ward 7, be a legal elector under the laws and constitution of the state and be a resident of Eugene for one year immediately before being appointed to office. Interviews with the Eugene City Council will be scheduled in early December. The application deadline is 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2022.

The interim appointment will be made in December 2022 and the person appointed will serve until a successor, duly elected in May of 2023, takes office in July of 2023. The successor, elected in May of 2023, will serve out the remainder of the current City Council, Ward 7 term (01/2021-01/2025).

Potential Dam Breach & Flooding Risk Presentation and Discussion – Nov. 14th @ 7:00 pm

Hello neighbors,

Ready NW Eugene* and the River Road Community Organization (RRCO) are inviting you to join us on Monday, November 14th at 7:00 pm via zoom, for a presentation and discussion with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) on potential dam breaches and subsequent flooding in the greater Eugene/Springfield area.


All are welcome and encouraged to attend this presentation.

Some of us have seen inundation maps (https://nid.sec.usace.army.mil/#/) showing the alarming depictions of what a catastrophic dam breach or multiple breaches of the nearby dams would mean to the Eugene/Springfield area, such as in the event of a major earthquake or excessive rainfall.

The purpose of this November 14th presentation is to inform the community, understand how to read the maps, and to start an ongoing dialogue on this important topic. It is expected that this presentation is one of many discussions that we will have in the future on related topics, such as – emergency alert systems or plans for rescue and evacuation.

We owe it to ourselves and our greater community to understand the condition and maintenance of our nine nearby USACE owned dams and to promote improvements that might be called for.

Eugene seeking applications for MUPTE Review Panel

From the City of Eugene:

The City Manager is accepting applications for 4 technical representative seats on the review panel for the Multi-Unit Property Tax Exemption (MUPTE) program. The open seats are:  

  • architect/green building specialist,  
  • building trades union (must be a union member or have a written recommendation from a building trades union),  
  • developer, and  
  • human rights representative (must be a member of a human rights organization or have a written recommendation from a human rights organization).  

The panel provides a third-party review of the MUPTE program and reviews new applications, ongoing compliance, and the overall program. The panel is comprised of neighborhood representatives and six technical members selected by the City Manager. Members serve for 3-year terms. The deadline to apply for the committee is Friday, October 21, 2022. To apply please submit a letter of interest and provide evidence of technical expertise (including seat-specific requirements, see above) to Dylan Huber-Heidorn

The MUPTE program encourages higher density housing and redevelopment by providing a tax exemption for up to 10-years on qualified, new multi-unit housing that occur within a targeted area, meet program requirements, and are reviewed and approved by Council. For more information on the program>>
