Flags will be placed on the graves of veteran’s. Kyle Sorensen and Boy Scout Troop 182 have been working on Kyle’s Eagle Scout project for the cemetery. They have cleared the hawthorn thicket on the west side of the cemetery and installed two new benches this fall. Kyle has put a lot of work into planning and organizing the job along with fundraising for finances. The benches are made with slabs cut from the large maple that broke during an ice storm.

Luper Cemetery gate will also be open Saturday, November 14th from 9 to 4.  More at Luper Cemetery .

Dog Park Anyone?

At our recent SCCO meeting, we discussed the possibility of improving some or our undeveloped parks.  The undeveloped parks are Bobolink, Ferndale, Lone Oak, Terra Linda, Wendover and the Madison school area Community Park.

Two concepts were mentioned.  A dog park (Santa Clara does not have one) and natural playgrounds.

WigglyField-1 Here’s a picture of an over the top dog  park in Illinois, named Wiggly Park.
We don’t need the play structures.  We just need a fence, some benches and a parking area.

Natural playgrounds use stone, timber and other natural objects to develop play areas.  The City of Eugene wants all improvements to be as maintenance free as possible, so the material in the photo at the left is perfect.  Note that the Friends of Awbrey Park installed three basalt columns as benches about five years ago and they have required no maintenance so far.
