Parks and Rec Survey – How do you feel about Santa Clara parks?

150416_Parks_Logo_comps
How do you feel about Eugene (and specifically Santa Clara) parks?  What would you like to see in the future?

The city is conducting a survey this summer and will develop a draft plan based on public input.  One of the challenges noted in the survey is adding facilities to provide equitable services across the city.  Our Santa Clara area is certainly underserved on developed parks.  Only three of our seven neighborhood parks are developed and the 35 acres the city owns for the development of a community park are just empty fields.  Nor do we have the bike paths that can be found in the parks along the river and Amazon Creek.

The survey is an opportunity to provide input about pools, natural areas, community centers, sports fields and more.  While the survey isn’t specific to Santa Clara, there are many opportunities to type in your feelings.

Click here to read about and take the survey.  Bonus: After you complete the survey you can enter a contest to win some nice activities .

PS.  Tonight, July 17th, is the Free Movie in the Park at Awbrey Park.  The movie ‘Up’ starts at 9PM.

Santa Clara School site update

Santa Clara

Andy Vobora, Santa Clara resident and LTD Director of Customer Services and Planning, attended the SCCO meeting in June and gave us an update on the Santa Clara Elementary School Property.

LTD has purchased the property with the intent to move the River Road and Beltline Park & Ride to a portion of the old school property.  Vobora stated that LTD’s current thinking is to sell the portion of the property not to be used for busing.  The portion that would be sold would likely be used for development of affordable housing and commercial development.

As part of the overall transaction, Umpqua Bank added a house at no cost to LTD.  The house will be donated to the Veteran’s Housing Project.

The Register-Guard published a long article on the subject in their City-Region section of the July 11th edition.

If you are interested in the development plans in the Santa Clara area, we encourage you to attend our SCCO  meetings the first Thursday of each month.

Earthquake starts Fun Fourth

The 4th got underway at 8:42 with a 4.2 earthquake centered near Walterville.  Let’s hope it’s just fun and fireworks the rest of the day. Just in case  you have forgotten what to do in an  earthquake:

  • DROP to the ground (before the earthquake drops you!),
  • Take COVER by getting under a sturdy desk or table, and
  • HOLD ON to it until the shaking stops.

earthquake-drillApparently the most important part is to take cover.  More people get hurt by flying objects than collapsed buildings.
